The Maria Callas Museum is housed in an impressive three-story neoclassical building, owned by the Municipality of Athens, located at 44 Mitropoleos Street. It is the first museum in the world entirely dedicated to the iconic soprano, Maria Callas, with the mission of showcasing her artistic persona and work. Its primary goal is to bring the public, especially those unfamiliar with opera, closer to the world of Callas.
The museum offers a multidimensional experience to visitors, presenting the life and career of this celebrated artist through texts, exhibits, videos, and rare audio recordings. Visitors have the opportunity to journey through her artistic path, from her early beginnings in Greece to her brilliant international career. The museum highlights her famous roles, her cosmopolitan lifestyle, the significant moments and people who shaped her life, and her invaluable artistic legacy.
The permanent exhibition spans the first and second floors of the museum, offering an immersive and interactive discovery of Callas’ life and art. On the third floor, there are temporary exhibitions, educational programs, master classes, small concerts, and other events. On the ground floor, visitors can enjoy the “La divina” café/restaurant and explore the museum shop, where souvenirs and publications inspired by the life and work of the legendary diva are available.
